Food-Grade Silicone Tubing for Coffee Machines

I. Application Scenarios

Suitable for household and commercial semi-automatic & fully automatic coffee machines, divided into three types of pipelines:
  1. Cold water inlet pipes and preheating water delivery hoses for boilers
  2. High-temperature hot water extraction pipes (90–100℃)
  3. High-pressure steam milk frothing tubes for steam (120–180℃ high-temperature steam)

II. Core Materials & Manufacturing Standards

  1. Raw material: High-purity food-grade VMQ silicone rubber with fumed silica, free of industrial recycled rubber and reclaimed rubber.
  2. Mandatory vulcanization process: Platinum vulcanization (bis-2,4 vulcanization is prohibited for drinking water applications) plus secondary high-temperature vulcanization to thoroughly eliminate small molecule precipitates, ensuring zero odor and no cross-contamination of coffee flavors.
  3. Sanitation certifications:
    • US standard: FDA 21 CFR 177.2600
    • EU standards: LFGB, RoHS, BfR food contact specifications

III. Core Performance Advantages (Adapted to High Temperature, Grease and Steam Working Conditions of Coffee Machines)

1. Wide Temperature Resistance, Compatible with High Temperatures of Boilers and Steam

  • Continuous long-term service temperature: -60℃ ~ 180℃
  • Short-term peak steam temperature: 200–230℃ without softening, precipitation or deformation
  • Resists repeated cold-hot cycles (cold water, boiling water and steam) without hardening or cracking after long-term use; PVC and ordinary EPDM rubber age rapidly and emit peculiar odors above 100℃.

2. Chemically Inert for Food Use, No Flavor Transfer or Harmful Substance Precipitation

Free of plasticizers, heavy metals and volatile small molecules; no odor released under hot water or high-temperature steam, preserving the original flavors of coffee and milk.

Resistant to coffee grease, milk fat and weak organic acids in coffee; no swelling or harmful substance leaching after long-term contact.

Dense and smooth inner wall resists adhesion of coffee oil stains and milk residues, easy to clean and inhibits bacterial and algae growth.

3. Hydrophobic & Mildew-Resistant; Light-Blocking Type Prevents Algae Growth in Pipelines

Black light-shielded silicone tubing blocks light to completely avoid algae and biofilm formation inside pipelines, the preferred choice for commercial coffee machines.

Water absorption rate less than 0.1%, resistant to mold and residual odors in long-term humid pipeline environments.

4. High Flexibility & Fatigue Resistance, Fits Compact Internal Wiring of Machines

High resilience and elongation at break (≥300%); no permanent flattening or cracking under repeated bending and machine vibration.

Suitable for tight installation spaces inside coffee machines, more flexible for assembly than hard plastic and ordinary rubber tubes.

5. Resistant to Steam Sterilization & Cleaning Agents

Directly sterilizable by boiling water and high-temperature steam; compatible with citric acid and food-grade descaling agents, no pipeline aging damage after long-term descaling cycles.

6. Optional Braided Reinforced Layer for High-Pressure Models (Commercial Coffee Machine Steam Tubes)

Polyester/fiberglass braided reinforcement layer boosts pressure resistance, withstands boiler high pressure (8–15 bar) without tube bursting or expansion, widely used for milk frothing steam pipelines.

IV. Comparison with Inferior Competitors: PVC & Ordinary EPDM Rubber Tubes

  1. PVC water pipes: Soften above 80℃ and release pungent plasticizers, causing severe flavor cross-contamination at high temperatures. Only applicable for normal-temperature cold water; strictly forbidden for high-temperature water circuits of coffee machines.
  2. Ordinary EPDM rubber: Prone to yellowing and rubber odor after long-term high-temperature exposure, easily adsorbs grease from coffee and hard to clean, lacking stable control of precipitates for food-grade applications.

V. Product Classification & Selection Guidelines

  1. Single-layer transparent food-grade silicone tubes (for household cold water pipelines only)

Low cost with visible water flow; only for low-temperature water intake, prone to algae growth under light exposure.

  2. Single-layer black light-blocking food-grade silicone tubes (universal for all water circuits of commercial machines)

Light-proof, bacteria-inhibiting and odor-free, compatible with hot water and extraction pipelines, best cost-performance option.

  3. Braided reinforced high-pressure silicone tubes (commercial steam milk frothing tubes)

Pressure-resistant and anti-expansion, standard matching semi-automatic coffee machine steam wands.

  4. Double-layer fiberglass heat-insulated silicone tubes (external anti-scald steam tubes)

Heat-insulated outer layer to prevent burns during hand-held use, dedicated to external milk frothing hoses of commercial coffee machines.

VI. Common Standard Sizes (Universal Inner Diameters for Coffee Machines)

  • Thin inlet pipes: ID2×OD4 mm, ID3×OD5 mm
  • Boiler hot water pipelines: ID4×OD8 mm, ID5×OD9 mm
  • High-pressure steam braided tubes: ID6×OD12 mm, ID6.35×OD12.7 mm (1/4 inch standard)
